Meet ACCESO Amigo: Jordan

During our 25th Anniversary celebration, we are introducing you to the former and current members of the ACCESO Amigos Club through which events are held to create an atmosphere of international friendship and education among elementary-aged children and are co-facilitated by youth volunteers. This month meet Jordan, a former Amigos Club member who was renowned for his performance of the children’s Afro-Caribbean flag dance at the Sounds & Tastes of the Americas.

As the first son of the founders, I’ve witnessed ACCESO in all its forms. Seeing how passionate my mother is (and has been) about ACCESO has always been motivating to me. From the early stages, whatever she’s needed help with over the years, I’ve been here to do, and will continue to do.

Volunteering for ACCESO has really filled my life with life-changing experiences. When you see the work all the volunteers do here in Canada, and then go to another country to meet the people we work hard to help, it’s indescribable. I’ve had the privilege to travel to a few countries, including Honduras in 2005, where I shared school supplies, fair trade soccer balls, food and clothes with children in orphanages, schools and homework centres. Such experiences remind us of the needs of children everywhere.

Everyone does a lot of good work here at ACCESO and we couldn’t ask for a better team. We really are a family.
