Meet ACCESO Volunteer: Sonia

During our 25th Anniversary celebration, we are introducing you to the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to promote greater access to education. This month we meet Sonia, one of our newest volunteers, whose first activity with us was helping out at our Trivia Night in November 2019. She currently sits on the 25th anniversary committee and the Sounds and Tastes committee, and helps write the country features for our blog, sharing her ideas and efforts to promote education for all.

As a new empty nester with my children off on their own, I felt a need to expand my volunteering activities. I was first introduced to ACCESO at one of their Sounds and Tastes events. I was impressed by the dedication, enthusiasm and positive energy of the volunteers. I then attended another event where a presentation on the work that ACCESO does in Latin America and Canada really sparked my interest. Having volunteered on a parent-teacher committee before, I knew the importance of providing quality education but ACCESO opened my eyes to the challenges many families and their children face, both here in Canada and in so many other parts of the world.

By helping provide access to schools and school supplies, ACCESO empowers families and provides opportunities for children to thrive and attain their full potential. Sharing this vision with other volunteers is inspiring and I am excited to celebrate with them, our donors and partners ACCESO’s 25th year anniversary.
